CMGI spent millions trying to acquire the rights to name the Patriots new football stadium. Today they passed the
rights to Gillette [story.news.yahoo.com].

CMGI is best known for their ownership of AltaVista search engine and the former ad network Flycast/Engage.

CMGI, whose vastly depreciated Internet holdings have made it a poster child for the failed dot-com era, said it will take a charge of $21 million in the quarter ended July 31 to cover the future payments to be made under the deal. CMGI blamed both a downturn in technology industries and the need to focus on its own restructuring for the change in the deal.

I like the Gillette name better. It's only a matter of time before people nickname the stadium "the Razor"

maybe, roscopico...

good thing that's the brand/product Gilette is most known for - rather than one of their other HBA items - like oral-b - that could have spawned a bunch of bad nicks.

Was it Gillette or Remington that called the razor the greatest loss leader in the history of mankind?

Kind of interesting... Victor Kiam, the owner of Remington, used to own the Patriots. Now another razor company is sponsering the stadium. Does Boston have a fixation on razors or something?
