Why is site listed incorrectly?

www.mysite.com/index.html - /index.html does not exist!

In my logs and on some search engines, I have noticed that my site which ends in simply ".com" has an additional extention such as "/index.html"

Why is this? There is no /index.html on my index page. And if I search for my site in Google or MSN using this extension, there is no information on that URL ... but it is listed in Yahoo with this non-existant extension. Why?
