Microsoft Corp. laid out a plan Monday to further extend its business software into telephones and related areas, hoping to convince corporations that its Office product line can be the one-stop shop for sophisticated communications technology.

At an event Monday in San Francisco, the company showed planned products designed to more closely link virtually all workers' communications, from e-mail and instant messaging to videoconferencing and traditional telephone calls.

"We are significantly expanding the capabilities that we offer," said Jeff Raikes, president of the Microsoft Business Division, in a Webcast of the event.

Makes sense to me. I guess IMAP email will suddenly become a lot more popular.
