Should I use a CMS system for my upcomging site like that Joomla portal - it really looks nice and also looks like it would be really low maintenance (not having to upload a index.html each time you write something)

What are your views on joomla

There is no doubt that joomla will jump start your site. It is an easy way get content up fast. Joomla is one of the more stable CMS available.
It's upside is also it's downside. It is what it is. CMS straight out of the box is a compromise. Unless you take the time to really work it, you don't get to understand the inner workings of what goes into a site and how to make a site index well.

I understand that Joomla is an excellent tool but if you are designing your own site and you are in control of it why bother?

Thanks for the replies, what I was thinking of is basicly implamenting joomla cms and then creating my own theme/s so i dont have to code my own news system - i think this will make life so much easier for me.

so far from the comments cms is the way to go :)

There is excellent reading on this in the CMS forum [webmasterworld.com...]

The quick answer is not bad, BUT not as good as you want it to be without tweaking it.
