Can I trust another website with my FTP info to install a search?

I've been looking for a search I can use on my site. I've come across this one:

[xav.com...]

I'm having trouble with the manual download to configure myself.

There is a Automated Install but it requires giving out all of my FTP info - account, passwords etc.

How do I know if I can trust them?

I wouldn't worry about it. xav has been around a long time. The search on this site used to be powered by FDSE.

Second what linkshark said -- I first used xav.com's search script back in the late 90s. They're reputable.

Regardless of the level of trust, though, it's good practice to change your password after providing it to any third party for something like that.

Thanks. I actually found xav slightly difficult to use. It didn't seem to search the body text - just the meta tags. I have since downloaded Zoom and am trying it out. Seem simply :)

Will change my password with my host.

Change back to FDSE and adjust the weightings for the body, title, meta etc. Trial and error, but worth the effort.

The default settings do miss a lot of goodies, because they are set for speed.

I found after I adjusted the weightings, it works wonderfully. Even better than Google NFP search.

Yep,it was around for a long time
