Thankfully this has been cracked but I had never heard of a virus that would hold your data for ransom.

Illegal but definitely inventive. I hate to think what they are planning next...

Poor programming has allowed anti-virus companies to discover the password to retrieve the hijacked data inside a virus that has claimed at least one UK victim.

I read this story too last night - I'm glad that I'm not the only one who's never heard of ransome viruses.

There are two morals to this story
1) Keep backups of all critical data.
2) Don't ever click on popups, etc, that offer to scan your computer or says your computer is/maybe infected, etc.
