To subdomain or not?

Yes - I'm sure this has been answered many 'a' times, so I'm looking for a link to a good 'answer'.

Say I have three books, but one [new] 'parent' site.

For SEO & general rule purposes... should I go:
[book_name.domain.com...]
or
[domain.com...]

You are correct, it has been discussed a lot. I have seen no proof one way or the other and the only issue seems to be that the subdomains are seen by the SE's as seperate domains, but even that has been argued.
