simple database query

eg. how do I integrate one!

I'm doing a site which has a search for event page which has 2 dropdowns - location & date. When the submit button is clicked I need it to access the database and return the results.

I dont expect someone to explain it to me here, I am after links to tutorials etc. Databases have always been something of a mystery to me...

Well the solution will vary depending on which scripting language and database you're using...

no problem, that is what we're here for. If you figure out what languages are available to you from your host then post in the appropriate one of the two above forums you will get all the resident experts for that particular language.

hi, I had the same problem and decided to use an access database with an ADO connection. It really is a very simple thing to do and will take you about 2-3 days to get to grips with. There is one site I would swear by its called w3 schools. I suggest learning first asp then ADO then SQL the site will help you with all of these and its all free. www.w3schools.com

I would agree with the above post. With ASP and Access you can be up and functional in a day or two. Faster if you have some experience.

I've used ASP with AS/400 databases and adore the ease of use.

I agree with uk_dokey about w3schools - very useful. For specific technical ASP queries I'd go to http://www.4guysfromrolla.com.

If you go down the ASP route http://www.brinkster.com offers free ASP web hosting and has a codebank and forums with probably most of the info you'll need.
