Hi everyone, I am setting up a huge informational web-site, I have spent a lot of this year and last creating web-pages.

Once I had all of them done, I thought it would be easy, just upload the sites onto my hosting account, then manually index all of the pages.

What I did not fully realize was that it would take 4 Months work working 9 hours a day to get it done.
I have looked online for some Website Indexing Software but I can't seem to find what I am looking for.

What I want is something that will...
- Alphabetically organise the pages
- Put the hyper-links into the names
- Punctuate them so they make sense
(Instead of web_page_name_here.html I would rather Web Page Name Here)

I have over 124,000 pages so it would take a lot of work to do it manually.

CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME!

Any help with products or advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks You!

You made 124,000 pages by hand?

We have a similar set up, except that we have 21mB of text data which is automatically translated into web pages, with sensible tiles, hyperlinks to related topics, automatically inserted image tags to show images related to topics andthe like.

The whole is then indexed to be searchable.

Strangely enough, we wrote our own application to do this, we did release an early version as Shareware, but abandoned it some years ago.

''You made 124,000 pages by hand? ''

Well I had some help, and I used the same template. It took me a very, very long time. I just hope that it's all gonna be worth it.

The Wish List items you're hoping some program will satisfy sound more like content manipulation than site indexing software per se.

It's kind of like you're saying, "I'm going to cook this dish but I need something to arrange the prep dishes on the counter, mix the wet and dry ingredients, and convert the recipe's metric measurements" -- and you want to cook 124,000 dishes.

(Aside: I think they call those 'somethings' paid assistants -- or custom programmers:)

Because when you say "website indexing software," I immediately think of search engine-related programs where files are read, keywords indexed, and then the resulting database is searchable (as opposed to the individual files).

But what you seek involves dissimilar actions. For example, "web_page_name_here.html I would rather Web Page Name Here" has to do with editing HTML, and "Punctuate them so they make sense" is copy-editing.

While I can't name suggestions for the kinds of program(s) you seek, sorry, methinks you may have more success searching for assistance if you look for a combination of programs rather than hope to find a single, off-the-shelf, quick-fix, free solution.

Alternatively, you could contact a local community college computer sciences department and see if you could arrange to mentor a capable student or two and they could assist you in exchange for independent study credits.

Last but not least, you might just opt to leave the pages you've made as-is and link/format/punctuate new pages in the new way(s) from here on in.

Good luck!
