[network54.com...]

with the option for people to post to replys.. but the replys need to be moderated or deleted when necessary.

Kendra, the popular definition of a blog is that is has many links out - so by nature it leads people out of your site, but becuase the links and your comments on them ar so witty and percipitous people should keep on coming back! :) You are probably looking more for blog type software but using it as a diary/news thingo

Do a search in your favourite search engine for "blog scripts". Some I know which have things like commenting, user management, instant publishing, file management and have good followings are Movable Type and Greymatter plus a host of slashdot clones and news publisher type scripts at hotscripts.com. Hosted solutions such as blogger.com and Live Journal as you say. And there is Radio which is a mix between a hosted and local solution.

Just because you use a blog script doesn't mean you need to run a traditional "tons 'o links" blog site... ;)

The link to the greymatter script given above is a good one... That's what I use on my site, and I just keep a collection of self-serving essays with it. No reason you can't use the software for something like a frequently updated journal without outgoing links.

It allows you to set up a "reply" feature on the pages, and allows you to edit and moderate and generally control everything that's posted (if you so choose).

Kind of a pain to get 100% customized, but if you don't mind spending a few hours setting up and tweaking everything, it works great.
