How to take UK visitors to .co.uk site, not .com - redirect?

We have two domains - www.domain.com and www.domain.co.uk. Our UK division is upset because they think that searchers are going directly to the .com and never find the .co.uk. In addition to adding navigation on the .com to take users to the UK site, is there a way to automatically take visitors from the UK to the appropriate site? An IP redirect? Can this be done on a country-wide basis? Any ideas - inside or outside of the box :) - are very much appreciated!

You will need an ip-to-country table in your database (which can be found for free). You could query this database to get the country, and when it's uk, you redirect to the .co.uk website. It only requires a few lines of code.

However, you might want to disable this redirect (with a cookie or something) if a user clicks on a link to the .com version of the site from the .co.uk site.
For instance, if I go to google.com, I am automatically redirected to google.be - but I can still choose to go to the google.com website without being redirected again.
