Credit Card Processor

First of all, I am not sure whether this is the correct forum or not. My apologies if it's not.

I have a client who wants to be paid by credit card every time hires him for a webdesign job. He wants to have the option of being paid by PayPal too. Basically, I build a form where everything for his website is submitted. He receives the form in an admin, and e-mails his client with the quote and a link to the credit card processor. Can anyone recommend a good CC third party processor for this purpose? Any extra advice is recommended. Any books, articles, etc. about Credit Card fraud/security and steps I should take to ensure my client's safety are also welcome.

Being paid by credit card has a couple of downsides. You pay for the service, whereas payment by check has no such fees. There are also these things called chargebacks. I just got hit by a couple of chargebacks by paypal for advertising I sold to a client. The client had no problem with the ads, but had cancelled the credit card (he said) and didn't want to pay the card company any more, and two of my charges ended up on the bills he didn't want to pay.

He is still a client doing business with me. I have demonstrated this to paypal more than once. Do you think that they care? The chargebacks stick and I got the client to reimburse me, but the black mark on my record is something I'll have to live with.

Web design is a very subjective thing, and a client would probably have no problem saying that what was delivered was not as advertised. Who do you think that paypal and the credit card company will side with in a dispute like that?

So what do you recommend? Should I tell him that PayPal is the way to go? My question wasn't really answered, though I do appreciate your input.

Unless working remotely, and getting contracts online, I dont think its a very good idea to get paid by credit cards.

1) You are loosing between 2-5% for the discount (credit card processing fees etc)

2) Customers can chargeback after you deploy/deliver the project to them. Make sure you get a *signature* from them with a photocopy of the front/back and a signed contract with strict chargeback details

That said, I do allow customers to pay with credit cards if they ask. It's just I would never push that as my primary or preferred method of payment for the above reasons.

So how do you get paid?

I get paid 99% of the time by check. Sometimes client will use PayPal. Those are the only options I offer.

Most of my clients are local/regional so we invoice and get paid by check/cash for the most part. I am talking about our design/development projects mind you. Clients who just host with us are typically all credit card transactions, automated monthly.

I use PSIgate for my credit card processing. I am in Canada, so my choices arent as good as people in the US. PSIgate has been great though, no problems at all.

Typically most of the ppl describe the ability of a CC processor to accept Visa and MasterCard credit cards but does it also include American Express, Discover Card, and other types of credit cards, If you need a processor for European countries check it with chronopay.com, they accept majority of CC and they are stable and reliable company too.
