Just wondering, how much time does everyone who does seo to make a living (or part-time) spend on seo per site per month?

Everything I do is SEO, so I couldn't give you an exact figure unless it was to say about 90% of my time.

My site is retail e-commerce, so every new product that I add I'm thinking about what to call it so that customers will find it easily with searches (eg, what we New Zealanders call a widget is often called a woggle in Canada), how to write accompanying copy that will intensify the page for keywords and inroduce supporting search words, where to place it on site so it won't dilute the gallery page it links from, etc.

When I'm evaluating a new line of product, once I'm satisfied that it is of sufficient quality I think in terms of whether there is enough immediate variety available to make a strong gallery page, whether there is enough ongoing supply that the product will still be available when it hits the search engines, etc. (The products are artsy/craftsy, so supply can be capricious at best).

It's a significant factor in most decisions I make with regard to the site.

"everyone who does seo to make a living "

OOPS! I should learn to read. I don't do SEO for a living.

I do rely on my site to eventually make me a living :)

I for one am not interested in SEO. I do my own marketing and don't rely on search engines at all.

90 % of my clients are web design agencies. We do SEO for them. Contract begins on new site conception or rebuilds. This varies from 100 to 350 hours of seo according to site size. It ends 3 months after the site was put online with a detailed report.

Then you can add from 0 to 1500 hrs a year per site depending on competitivity and how important it market share to clients.

What it like about those who spend 0 a year is that they eventually (6 months) call you for another round...
