What to do about possible orphan pages?

Orphan/not an orphan? You decide.

For this scenario let's say that myself (A) and another company (B) sell widgets. My competitor (B) has recently gone out of business.

In addition to my index page I would like to create a page that is essentially the same as the index, but with a bit added at the top that reads (basically) Attention purchasers of B brand Widgets. B Widgets has gone out of business. Now is a perfect time to switch to A brand Widgets. I would then go into the standard text from my index. The title for this page would also be different from the main index page.

My question is this, I do not necessarily want to link to this page from my main site. I would prefer that people searching for B widgets find my page on the search engines. The page would have links back to everything at my site. It just wouldn't be linked to from any pages at the site. Is this a true orphan page since it links back to content on the site? Should I just link to it from one of my other pages in order to solve the orphan/not-an-orphan problem? Opinions and suggestions please.

Well to make sure I'd try to avoid possible duplicate content issues, changing the text from the standard index page significantly.
Second I would set a link from somewhere on your site. Dosn't have to be overly prominently placed. Good place would be a sitemap.
