We use WorldCom for our hosting and T1 service. So far so good, in fact the service we have been getting has been fantastic.

But what about the future?
Are there any other customers out there like us who have had any problems?
Should we jump ship?

Curious to hear from the community.

Glad to hear you're satisfied and getting good service, Rugles. As with anything, there will always be positive and negative, but we tend to shy away from reviewing hosts since a competitor could come along, say they're lousy and tell of a "better" one they switched to. Strange things can happen sometimes. ;)

Chances are if you've had good success so far it'll continue. Levels of service generally stay consistent over time, and companies know that a lot of their business is built by word-of-mouth and referrals, so if what they're doing is working they're likely to stay that way.

It's not a bad idea to do a periodic check now and then and send some simple question you think up just to check the response time. That way you'll know if there's a change.

You are right, we do not need to have a discussion on the merits of all the ISP's out there.
I am just wondering if the folks in this community had any wisdom to share on WorldCom. I thought it was fair game today considering I have already heard President Bush's opinion.

Worldcom doesn't actually do the Hosting. They just put their name on the product and sell it to you. Look deeper and you will see the company that hosts you is really Interland.

So you should be safe...

Just read an intersting offline article in my local paper (probably old news here). The CFO has resigned amid an accounting "problem". They had to go back 1 1/2 years, I believe, and show the true nature of the stock. They stated they were hoping to stay out of bankruptcy.

Marcia's response makes me wonder if she's heard the news about WorldCom.

[msnbc.com...]

I think it's a fair question, given the circumstances.

Lisa, the hosting in the US might be done by Interland, but WorldCom does host and have their own facilities in other countries.

I have 16 offices/sites hanging off of WorldCom... I am grasping for straws to find and implement emergency solutions.

Interland handles all the low-end hosting. So unless you have a colo-server or something big with them you are at Interland. Traceroute your IP addresses and and see who the netblock owner is. Also do that on the DNS server. That should tell you right away.

WorldCom does the hosting. I have been to the building and touched the server. Believe me when I say WorldCom does the hosting.
I should add that I am in Canada, that must make a difference. When we started negotiations it was still called UUNet.

wcomhosting.com equals
64.226.28.34 equals
"Netblock: 64.224.0.0 - 64.227.255.255" equals
Interland

If you touched the server sounds like you don't have a small site, Like I said, Interland does all the low-end hosting for them.

It is a pretty big site, e-commerce in fact. But a relatively small company.

I should have clarified it Lisa. My 16 sites are 2 in US, the rest is in EU, Pac Rim and Australia.
