No idea what the problem is, but I'll bump it up. It's obscure enough to be intriguing - I was waiting for a knowledgable reply myself.

Maybe you could post a little more detail that would help others to figure it out?

- Are you trying to delete the file off your server or on your local machine?
- If it is on the server, can you use the FTP program to rename the file instead, then delete the renamed file?
- Are you able to connect via SSH or via your hosting company's control panel and rename or delete the file that way?
- Does your hosting company restrict the use of certain file names such as hidden files (ie. files beginning with a period in Linux/Unix)?

I'm having the same problem.

Not a solution...

I made a new folder(2), moved the files out of the original, renamed the original to "killthis" and renamed the new folder to the original.

Found a second instance of this, repeated and moved it's folder in to the killthis folder.

Waiting for my server admin to log on to see if he can delete the thing.

Googling "pureftpd-upload" results in a number of reports indicating that the files are temporary, sometimes zero-byte, often the result of failed or partial uploads/transfers, and will delete themselves over time. (Of course, this info may or may not be correct:)

For the geekier, SysAdmin/server/user details, see:

"Pure-FTPd [pureftpd.org] is a free (BSD), secure, production-quality and standard-conformant FTP server..."

Good luck!

I use WSFTP and I see this file alot too. Generally my upload gets blocked, and when I close and restart the FTP the file is there. It's just a temp file and should disappear after you finish your upload.

Sometimes I get a popup window that says, "Would you like to resume your file transfer of bla bla?"

Anyway, it has always disappeared on it's own. I figured it was a new feature of WSFTP
