I'd appreciate some input. I am building a new community website with a multi-level directory, blog, articles, mailing list, newsletter and forums. It will need public, registered, and priviliged user types with private access areas.

Everything has to have a consistant look and feel with the ability to insert frequent graphics and meta tags.

I've decides to go dynamic for this one, so. . . .

For Apache-Linux, what MySQL based Open Source CMS, portal or combination of scripts would you suggest?

Thanx

A search for the KWs best CMS [google.com] and best portal [google.com] show quite a few threads here at WebmasterWorld. Usually the best advice is to try them out for yourself at a place like OpenSourceCMS or to compare them at CMSmatrix. Everyone's needs are different and there are hundreds of these packages out there.

After extensive trial and error research and installations, I finally chose Joomla. It's not perfect, but it is working well and I'm able to hack most templates/mods/bots/coms to get the look and feel I desire.

There were definitely some other contenders, e107 and PHP-Fusion, but I kept running into roadblocks that would take too much effort to overcome given the lack of community.
