A client has asked me about this technology, g:cast, marketed by a UK firm (they can be found via a search).

The technology is based on video embedded within an email for marketing purposes. The sender is notified when the video has been viewed.

I assume the video is downloaded on request and stored, as they claim it can be viewed when offline, though they also claim no plug-ins are required.

As a marketer, this might seem like a great tool. As a naive end user, I'd probably be impressed. As a web person, I'd be suspicious about security implications - how is it passing info back to the sender?

Has anyone here had any experience of this?

As a marketer, I don't see it as a replacement, or indeed the next big thing!

Someone needs to be expecting the pod cast arriving and can settle down in order to absorb it .. being mindful that we tend to scan emails initially and depending on our mindset, we read, save or junk.

I think they have a place, may be product launches, small demos, newsletters and 'meetings'.
