"After being hit by a denial of service attack that downed the Million Dollar Homepage site, British student Alex Tew now faces a lawsuit from one of the advertisers on the site. "

Wow, I'm not sure what to make of this. I kinda feel bad for Alex. If this is what happens when a Webmaster makes it big, maybe I'm in the wrong business?

If you have made the million for a couple of months there will always be scavenger around! This is just a part of every million business.

Everything about this site is about exposure. The advertiser probably figures it's the easiest way to get a couple million in free media exposure, no matter if they win or not.

That's just sad. If I was Alex I would give the guy his money back and not deal with him. I wonder how long it would take "the diet guy" to get his website up and running after a hacker attack. I could see if Alex intentionally didn't run the ads, but geez, give the kid a break.

It might be the best thing to happen to him. Building this novelty brought lots of press attention. As it became yesterday's news, it was bound to fade away. Then, good fortune: a DOS attack. Keep it secret? No, no, no, tell the press. Lots more articles, advertisers renew. Hmmm, what to follow up with? Oh, good fortune, someone's suing a poor college student! Lots more press, happy advertisers.

Come on, have people not got anything better to discuss? I'm getting sick of hearing about this website. It's yesterday's news - move on!

No one is forcing you to read every thread here, are they?

If it's that upsetting to you to hear about someone else's success, then don't even open the thread - move on!

that other site is trying to get links and exposure. How can you sue over that (DOS happens,) and for that amount?

Google so far hasn't indexed them at all, and I like that ;)

I think Alex made the mistake of not originally putting a standard disclaimer on the site that he is not responsible for any outages due to hacking, DoS attacks, technical difficulties, etc.

It may not have stopped the lawsuit, but it would have (maybe?) given him a stronger leg to stand on if he has to fight this.

Actually, since he's sold all the pixels, he doesn't need any more publicity.
