Moving content to a new site.

How long should I wait?

I have deleted a section of 50 pages from a site "X" which gets spidered very often by search engines.

I have created a new site "Y" which i hope to put the 50 pages on.

I have linked from site "X" to "Y" to get it spidered, it has been today.

How long should I wait to put the 50 pages on site "Y". Today, a week, a month, never?

Well, here's what you probably should've done...
1. leave the 50 pages on site X, let them be spidered
2. Create the same 50 pages on site Y but throw up a noindex,nofollow robots tag on them.
3. When site Y is ready to be launched/releases. Do a page-by-page 301 redirect from site X to site Y
4. Remove the noindex,nofollow tag from the 50 pages on site Y right before redirecting site X

By using the 301 redirect you will not only direct the spiders to the new location of your content more quickly, but also try to retain some of your legacy "SEO attribute" such as duration in the index, links, etc.

Please note though, that even if you did the 301 correctly, the full strength of your links won't transfer to the new pages, so you might want to contact the websites that link to you to update the links.

I would not have deleted the pages from site X but instead I would have copied them to site Y and done a 301 redirect (Moved Permenantly) from X to Y. This would insure that those pages would still be spidered and you wouldn't lose your search engine placement for those pages.
