I don't remember doing it but I must have accidentally deleted the email messages from my Inbox but cannot restore them. My Sent messages, deleted items etc are still there.

I had created a few different Folders within my main Inbox where I stored mail messages for different topics and from different senders.

I have found the relevant .dbx files which are still located on my C drive (C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings etc etc) but I can't seem to copy them back to my Inbox.

I have tried File/Import/Messages/Microsoft Outlook Express 6/Import Mail from an OE6 Stored Directory/

but when I come to the option to choose which Directories to import, it only gives me the standard choice of importing the Inbox (not any of the special folders, Sent Items etc etc, it does NOT give me the option to import my specially created sub-folders.

Can anyone suggest how I can get the mail messages back into my Inbox and/or special folders again?

Yours hopefully.

I know the full version of Outlook has a Recover Deleted Items option. Click on the recycle bin and go under tools and see if its there. Its a long shot but it might work.

Thanks for the suggestion - I checked the Recycle Bin and it is empty.

The Tools menu had the following options:-

Map Network Drive
Disconnect Network Drive
Synchronize
Folder Options

It's puzzling because although the email messages no longer show in OE6, they are still in the usual place on the C drive?

If all else fails, I use this

[oemailrecovery.com...]
It's not free but it is cheap and it works well.

Yes, those data recovery programmes can be useful (and were useful for the CIA for years!) but this does not seem to be a case of deleted-deleted emails because I have found the relevant .dbx files on my C drive (C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings etc etc).

Its just that I can't seem to copy them back to my Inbox.

Ah right.
I've used the programme to find .dbx files which somehow ended up all over the place on my hard drive and had gone awol from OE. After an email is recovered you save it as an .eml file and then you can copy it or drag and drop it back into your OE folder.

Cheers miop,

I tried changing the .dbx file to an .eml file and it changed my folder with 150 'unreadable' messages into 1 'readable' message (haha).

At least I had a back-up folder.

Hi,
Does anybody else know how to get a .dbx file from a Folder back into my Outlook Express page?

Thanks.
