Hi folks,

Am having trouble connecting via an ethernet cord to my new ibm t43 (xp pro). oddly, it connects fine via wireless but can't do so with an ethernet cable. when i try to repair the conneciton, it says it can't renew the ip address. using ip config, i get the message "unable to contact dhcp server." the same cable works fine on another laptop. any suggestions? been trying to find answers to this but have had no luck. here's what i've tried:

1.) ip config release / renew
2.) removed norton firewall / disabled firewall
3.) windows xp socket repair tool
4.) sacrificial offering

out of ideas. any other suggestions?

Can you not just specify the IP address instead of allowing it to use DHCP?

Hm. Well, the problem is that the ethernet line is not the same source as my wireless connection. This will mean a different IP, no?
