RSS news feed effect on search engines

This is a newbie here. I am just wondering if RSS news feed have any effect on search engines.

Any input is appreciated.

If RSS directories or other sites pick up your feed, and your feed has links to say, articles, then each link counts as a link to your site. This is assuming that they don't use javascript or flash to display the feed..
