How to promote – easy and simple?

Need some advice please.

I have programmed a site (url snipped - oilman) however I don’t know how to promote it. I tried at ODP but unfortunately the editor (who is gone now by the way) would not accept my site (interestingly he kept his in the directory). I tried Yahoo! as well but no result. Altavista .. L. The only one that generates traffic to my site is Google and sometimes MSN search (url snipped - oilman).
Can you tell me what am I doing wrong?
What should I change on my site to score better? And what number of visits a day is normal for a site like mine?

Too big a question for a definitive answer but you've made a good first step by finding this site.

Have a look through all the search engine forums and check the links at the top. there are often FAQ's and Knowledhe base type links that are very good.

Yup take a look around here, there is so much do it yourself type information there should be a book ;)

As far as it indexing your /admin/ pages you need a robots.txt to deny access to that page. Furthermore I dont think you should be having a link to any page you want to keep 'private' and 'admin' being the word for the directory i think its deemed worthy of being secretive ;)
