Hi All,

Sadly, due to my broadband connection (no static IP) I cannot host a server at home. Dedicated hosting is too expensive.

I am looking for a host with the following requirements:

Classic ASP (therefore windows based)
SQL DB - (maybe access)
Shedule Tasks
Have subdomains

Does anyone know where I can get this from? I don't care which country does the hosting.

TV.

Did you try to call your ISP to give you a static ip? isps charge 10-20$ per year for a static ip, you might be able to get it.

Yeah asking your ISP for a static IP might be the cheapest way.

Also, have a look a virtual dedicated hosting. It's where you share a box with a few others but for all intents and purposes you have your 'own' server.. you can log in via Remote Desktop, have your own OS etc etc. It's kind of in between shared and dedicated.

My ISP doesn't do static IP addresses. Sorry guys, tried that.

Look into a dynamic DNS service if you want to run a server from home but can't get a dedicated IP. Or if you're on cable maybe your local dsl provider will give you a static IP if you switch to them (or vice-versa).

Running a web server from home is just such a bad idea, I am amazed anybody still considers it.
Apart from anything else, it is just not cost efficient with proper hosting being so cheap nowdays.

A quick search on google for "ASP hosting" is what you need. For example, <snip> do MS hosting with ASP, Access, MS SQL etc for $10 a month

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies. I am ruling out hosting I think and noone offers you the ability to setup scheduled tasks. If anyone does now of a host that does ASP, SQL, Subdomains AND sheduled tasks (cheap) please pm me here (keeping their names off the board)

I am currently looking into Dynamic DNS as a solution, however, am worried that DNS updates take time as ISPs tend to cache results. Does dynamic DNS cater for this or will there be a big outage when my ip address changes.

Any experiences of dynamic dns are greatly appreciated.
