Comparing competitors product with yours on your site

Legally what can / cant you do?

We are busy launching a new software application which we are very proud of and thinks its great (wait till the reviewers hit it and tell us that its &#%t);)

Credibility is always key! Potential purchasers like to know what they are getting and what features your product has compared to the competitors out there.

A nice way of clearly demonstrating how your product differs (read kicks butt!) is to present a table with features and how the others measure up compared to you.

I am not affay with what the different jurisdictions allow / dont allow when comparing products?

Can I upload a product comparison table? Am I opening myself up to a liability suite?

I don't know how it works in the US, but in the UK I'm pretty sure you have to say the competitor, not the name. In the Czech Republic, you can compare brands, yes. Host the site and register the company here, then you know you're safe! :)

I was faced with the same decision, and I decided to let my product stand on its own rather than compare to a competitor.

Just as in political ads, negative ads in any sort reflect badly on the advertiser.

Thanks,

Backus - whats the weather like in the Czech Republic?

I'm from a sunny climate and although I believe in the product, am not sure that I am prepared to freeze my bollocks off!

Would love to have a features comparison on our site but think that we could get nailed.

Follow on from first question - What if a reviewer compares products? Legal implications?

I know on the back of all the AntiVirus software boxes in the US they all compare what each others has. ie: McAfee, Norton, etc.
