BBc news is covering in it's major late night news program the progress and events in the "Internet conference" in Tunisia..

World governments discuss "access" and "censorship" and controls on the WWW ...

The program raises some "thorny" issues ..can be "listened to again" via a link on site ..requires the download of realplayer if not already installed ..

my note .. realplayer wil try to make itself the default player for many file types ..better keep an eye on it during it's installation ..best downloaded and opened ..rather than run from download ..don't understand why the BBC wants such an agressive app as the only one for it's service ..however..

Link to news page for todays program ..the internet item is about 20 minutes into the clip ..lasts about 10 minutes ..

Good listen. What are your thoughts on the internet censorship issue?

I am considerably more concerned by the censorship of information than the censorship of pron on the net ..as I presume are those who spoke out during the program forcefully ( albiet unconvincingly and IMO insincerely ) against the latter whilst in reality being more concerned about looking after their asses rather than whom amonst their population was watching the asses of others ..

more complaints from the UN and the journalists today ..regarding the presence of paid state organised hecklers ..and the physical assaults upon attending journalists ..

I have spent considerable time in Tunis ..I tend to agree with the journalists ..would one expect the world to regard this venue as as credible as if it were held in North Korea ..

I can understand the sceptiscim of the "world"

Possibly why it was treated as unimportant or irrelevant or even "you cant be serious" by most western media

Many valid subjects were raised at the conference ..and more could have been raised ..but the venue was tainted ..
If an islamic state had to be chosen for the sake of political correctness there are many who are more closely deserving of the adjective "free" ..than Tunisia ..
