Hi All,

I'm looking for free webspace, i don't care about how much space, i only need enough to try out scripts and code.

Can anyone e-mail or send me a message for a free host with cgi support, i don't mind banners for now as long as they don't interfere with what i'm trying to run.

Or if anyone is willing to lend me ftp space (I won't be sending visitors just testing scripts) I would appreciate it.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Luke.

if you only want to test out scripts why don't you install PWS (personal web server) and Perl on your own computer, both are free.

I'm running Windows 98, is Personal Web Server available for my OS?

I know of PWS for NT but not Windows 98.

Luke86,

It's been awile since I've used win98 but it should be on the cd (almost positive) or available for download from MS.

EDITED: Just looked it is on the Win98 CD under /add-ons/pws

You could also install apache. Should work on most any version of 32 bit windows.

PWS is on the win98 cd as dstanovic said, it is very easy to install.

once installed you can then get and install perl

activestate perl [activestate.com]

Ok, I'm downloading Active Perl and Apache Web Server, how secure is my computer from outsiders?

well i'm NOT a security expert but your webserver will only be "serving" pages locally to your own computer so its not like it is permanantly exposed to the outside world, i think you are no more at risk than your computer is normally. i believe if you are running a local webserver you can potentially do more damage if infected by various trojans, but your chances of being infected are not increased by having a server running to test your pages. ... take the normal precautions with antivirus checking and run a firewall as you should anyway.

hopefully if someone here knows better they'll drop by and let us know.
