Hope i'm at the right place here for my question.

I have a SLES9 server running apache2 / php4 / mysql 4 and i'm running mambo as cms system. At the background i have bbclone to record site trafic. My site is just a small community site for my friends and me with a forum and pictures. There is no reason at all to come visit my website for outsiders ;-)

The 'problem' is that i got lots of trafic for the last 2 weeks. I'm from holland (page is in Dutch) and in bbclone i see visitor from Rusia, China, Israel, Germany, Romenia and lots more. 1 month ago i had a total of 40 views a day now i got 1.3k visitors a day.

I just dont understand how this can happen. I do see that the visitors are linked from a lot of porn site's and a other strange thing is that they all have Windows 2000 and Internet explorer 6 (all the 1.3k visitors a day)

Does anybody know this kind of problem or does anybody know how i got this. Do i have a security issue or is this something i cant do anything about.

Thanks for the info in advance!
(website is <snip> if you want to see it)

Erik!

Hi dicenl and welcome to WebmasterWorld.com!
My guess is you're seeing 'log file spamming' or 'referer spamming'.
Here is a post about it:
Log spam (referer spam) [webmasterworld.com]
And another about blocking it with .htaccess
htaccess syntax for blocking referrer spam [webmasterworld.com]
You should be able to reduce the amount of the spam by making sure your stats pages are password protected (and thus won't show up in the search engine results). You can contact the offenders and tell them to cut it out. If that doesn't work you can at least save yourself bandwidth by sending a forbidden code instead of a full page.

Public stats isn't a security breach, it's merely an overlook on the admin's part.
