My BEEF with Yahoo

With Yahoo billed as a top technological portal, I have a beef with them. I use google for all web searches and only use Yahoo for one thing, Fantasy Football. Yahoo should know I only use their site for FB, so why is it that everytime I go back to their homepage the FB access link is hit and miss. They always move it around, remove it from their homepage, etc. You'd think they would be able to accomidate my preferences using cookies.

Also their account login. Why offer a "remember me" option if you are not going to remember me? I always I have re-login re-login re-login. Even multiple times on one session.

Aren't their my.yahoo.com pages pretty customizable? I'd think you could get it where you want it there.

As for the login, it does remember you, just not your password. Yes, it's a pain, but it's also a security measure. I happen to use computer labs on my campus often and there are always people forgetting to logout of their hotmail accounts, yahoo accounts, messengers, school accounts, etc. You have to protect the naïve by inconveniencing the intelligent ones. ;)

But don't you think it would be HIGHLY beneficial for portal sites such as Yahoo to track what visitors do and automatically tailor their site to match each users past usage habits? It doesn't seem like it would be too much to ask to do this automatically and I am sure it would provide a good return.

For me, no. There are two reasons:

1) public computers

2) I'd rather have customizability in my own hands. I don't want them to pick what content to show me because I've been there a few times. There are other times that I might want to see something else, but I might not even know it exists anymore because yahoo filtered it out for me without letting me know.

I think the my.yahoo.com thing is great. It's linked to your profile, so you can use your settings on any computer without affecting other users and it's highly customizable.
