I like what I see so far. I'm not sure this is the typical hype. The default configurations (scaffolds) are pretty generic and easily changed.
From what I can see, the self documenting code and MVC way in which projects are handled makes it easier to come back to a site or get others involved.
I'm not sure it is faster to get a cart/blog/forum up and running with Rails, but it seems like it would be lots easier to maintain. I can see this really taking off in the forums area and giving phpbb a hard time.
In comparison to WebObjects, Rails seems lots easier to get started with.
