Does anyone have any ideas. My website company has a lot going but has produced a guestbook which does not allow me to ban IP's. Sometimes I wake up to the Big.................A......kind of posting that is definitely not what I want on the site. I delete every morning; but is there some way, or some kind of code, that I can use to stop what I think is random generators who have got hold of my website address? Most of the time if it is not that, then I get nice genuine posts, but some people seem to come back with 'see my incredibly stupid showing me to be a complete lacking in brain type of individual because my mind is one track' sites.' It is obvious the 'great content' means they never read the site!
Thanks

If you are sure they are bots then you will need some kind of visual confirmation script - the kind of thing where you have to type in the randomly generated letters displayed on screen before the user input is accepted.

As for IP banning well, that is not really effective unless you are getting hit from the same person and he has a static IP.

You may need to change your guestbook script. There are plenty out there which have these features. Some even allow you to have bad word filters which can be a great help in keeping the guestbook clean.

Just google for

php guestbook script

if you are using php.

You can still use your old entries by having a 'click here for archived messages'.

Thanks. This is so helpful.

Sigh I will have to do something. I forgot that with AOL banning is incredibly hard, though I did have the info on how it can be done - have had to deal with that before. I moderate a website and every troll that comes along uses aol as they know it is a dynamic server.....

I have to laugh though - whoever decided to target the site can't spell! Makes them look rather silly.

Think I am going to have fun learning some new stuff sometime today.....

How about a "bad word" blocker? So if a post contains certain words it isn't posted until approved?
