6.45 am this morning- an email
"I have just seen your website (from Northernlight.com search engine) and would be interested ......."
the client is from Wembley but why would anyone in the UK use Northernlight not exactly a UK orientated SE.
Anyway the Guy is bringing 100 quids worth of work tomorrow which is what its all about but how do you get into the mind of a surfer?

There is the eternal challenge, Videoman. Good news on that e-mail. I've always liked NL as it is a good research tool. It's referals are poor, relative to others, but it is a BIG db and updated regularly.

NL does appear that the bottom of some SEs suggesting "try your search on..."

I shouldn't have thought it any less useful than any of the other 'international' SEs that people regularly use such as google. I think there is probably a section of reasonably proficient people who can get UK specific results from an international search-engine.

But personally, I find NL a bit iritating to use.

Very interesting demographics on show in the NL media kit [northernlight.com].

NL also appears with Google on top of a November 15th review of SE's by PCWorld Znet. For us it IS a good engine and fairly up to date. It just dosent get much use and therefore few referalls.

Keep an eye on them. With the way Se's are changing NL may well slip into a valuable niche.

NL is commonly packaged in the free submission services.

Most of our traffic comes from the "fed To" search engines, (ink,AV,UKplus,Lycos etc) very little comes from the UK specific's, which is what I think you would expect.

Has any one paid for Just 35 ?

Their TV adverts seem to have died a death and their inclusion rates didn't seem to make commercial sence ??

The client came with the work- so I asked him about NL and he told me had added "uk" to the search term. I checked and came up at 4 and I assume I was geographically the nearest.
The reason he used NL was that he used it to research articles and it was his favourite SE.

Spiky did anybody pay for Just 35 The health warnings were flying around here and their sense of humour was only surpassed by their rates.

Lots of my clients get a decent amount (for this read more than 10%) of their traffic from Northern Light - all UK based companies, and none specifically optimised for NL. Not sure what we're doing right, but not complaining
