Lycos UK reverts to UK sites only default.

For months they have showed all sites.

Someone (at last) noticed that the default search at Lycos UK, which said it was UK and Ireland searches as the default - was actually showing worldwide sites. At long last the filter has been put back on - not a .com in sight.

Lycos drove some reasonable traffic for UK searches when the filter was on previously. Now, I wonder if they are going to do anything about their directory - which got hidden from view at the same time as the filter was removed?

Lets hope they give some weight to sites in the directory again and Yahoo follow suit... ;)

Absolutely.

They are wasting the resource they spent time and effort to create.

The thing is though does anyone use the old dog anymore? I've got some good rankings with Lycos, but I see a trickle of traffic, in fact it's on par with hotbot now

I think they reached their peak traffic levels with their TV ads a while back. A lot can change with time though. I think the Lycos brand still has some very good qualities, but they have far too many ad-spaces/sponsored listings/ etc. and so web results don't get the hits they used to.

Just tried lycos.co.uk with a search term and it returned
the same listing as google (almost). Plenty of dot.coms
where returned, some of which I know are US sites.

So looks like your early comment on lycos now ignoring
non UK sites is incorrect.
