Got a call from these people today, the usual marketing gubbins I thought. They sit on .co.uk and com and make the claims we've all come to know and love,"thousands of people", "up to the minute stats" etc. Make a claim similar to someone I can't quite remember in that they tell you where you are ranked out of UK companies compared to your competitors amongst other things.

they seem slightly different in that they claim to be able to tell you all about your stats (after they've signed you up of course) where your visitors come from etc,

looked in the archives here, couldn't find anything. they are calling back tomorrow so I'll see what transpires. it's hard not to be cynical these days isn't it, when ever someone rings you are automatically suspicious... still, they've only got themselves to blame I suppose, I guess most people here get these type of calls every day. :(

I met with Hitwise in early Sept. They're based in St Johns Wood, London and employ about 20. I think they started in Oz. I wanted to find out about them as I think they're one of, if not the only? company who aggregates data from all the UK ISPs and makes it available to its customers.

I was looking to see if what they did could add value to my internet marketing offering.

The most basic package is £4,500 which allows for 2 or 3 user licenses. If you as the seo, recommend them to your clients, then you'll probably want access to it also which is a further £500. They can alert companies if there is any mention of the company/brand/competitor etc online. Thats another £2k as I recall.

Only thing I didn't like is that it gets its data from UK ISPs only. IE - If your client is international, they can't get a good estimation of traffic to competitor sites by International users via this system.

A bit expensive & UK only but it does give lots of good data in an easy-to-take-in manner.
Hope that helps
J

Hi Rusty,

They'll give you a free report if you request it which always seems to put your site in the top 10 of a catergory they suggest!

I can see the worth in this type of product for a Blue Chip but for a SME Alexa is good and free.
