[statistics.gov.uk...]

The report shows that the overall value of sales made over the internet in 2001, (excluding the finance sector) was £18.4bn, accounting for 1% of total sales value by the non-financial sectors of the economy.

Year on year comparisons (for fewer sectors) show an increase from £12bn to £17bn.

The 2002 figures will surely also show a nice increase in sales like the tendency has been in Scandinavia. Internet sales is showing a steady growth compared to the same period last year. I`m very optimistic for the years to come :)

£18.4 billion = only 1%?!?!?!
i thought it was considerably more than 1% already, more like 5% or 6%. but whatever it is, £18.4 billion is a huge amount of money and there is massive scope for increasing this over the next few years.

now if i can just divert that £18.4 billion to my own bank account ....

Interesting stats.

I know of a large retailer which sells B2C and B2B off and online.

After a number of years with their online presence which is pretty well developed, they still apparently have sales limited to 5% of transactions via the net.
