Altavista indexing

Over the past couple of months I've tried submitting a number of sites to AV UK but had none of them indexed although AV.com picks them up. Some of these sites are with different hosts so that rules out IP address blocking. I've also had no indication that the submissions have been blocked as spam (which they're not anyway).
I submit manually via AV UK.
Whats the average time it takes for AV UK to index a site and has anybody else had problems with them. Should I submit more frequently?

I've also had similar problems with Lycos UK.

Vespa, welcome to the forums.
AV UK has been quite good at spidering sites, although they could have slowed a little.
I assume you are selecting the uk's add url page.
>I submit manually via AV UK.
This is recommended - you don't need submission software for this.
The shedule goes something like this.
Once submitted, you'll see a spider visit in the logs to check the site exists. Usually within 24-hours. If is does, it gets added to the "sites to be visited" memory. Once the spider comes back to the site, it'll usually look around to see what's there to index. Anything from 10 to 30-days.
Once this visit is over, you should see a third visit where deeper spidering will occur. Anything from 30-days to three months.
As to when your sites will appear in the index. It will depend upon index updates. You could find it's in after 30-days, although i'd wait a little longer. Spidering does not mean it'll appear in the index. Although, if you have been spidered, then there is no real need to resubmit.
Check your logs for AV's spider. Have you seen it yet?

Yes, Essex man for all my sins.
Thanks for the replies. The sites I'm submitting are all co.uk. I've checked the logs of a couple of the sites and there's no sign of scooter (it is scooter in the UK isn't it?)
It looks like AV is just not visiting me. I'll try to re-submit one of my URL's again and keep a watch out over the next 24 hours.

Vespa, be careful you don't oversubmit (spam).
One url and even one page will do.

Let us know how you get on.

Well, I submitted one page at one of my URL's nearly two days ago and from the logs it looks as if scooter hasn't visited. Any suggestions as to why I can't seem to get Altavista to spider my sites.

could it be AV has put a block on the site ?

Hi tigger,
The problem I have is with a number of unique domains spread over several hosts, so even if they were blocking a URL or an IP address the others should be ok. Can AV identify the computer making the submission (i.e. my pc) and put a block on that.

I've also spoken to AV uk and was told that they are currently over stretched as well as updating their system which has caused a backlog but should be sorted in the next week or two. Sites should then be indexed in 6-7 days. Have you found it hard getting new pages indexed with AV UK recently?

AV has slowed, for sure. Sounds like it's a question of waiting...

I've always found it takes ages to get into AV.co.uk, but once in you tend to stay :) which is a complete reverse of .com (at least for me) I normally get in within 2 weeks, but find I have to keep my eye on the rankings.

Mind you I've always found the .co.uk SE's very slow.
