Hi,
I'm trying to find online resources for tips on optimizing specifically for the UK versions of AltaVista, AOL, Google, Looksmart, Lycos, MSN, and Yahoo. Are there SEO tips that would apply specifically to UK versions of these engines, either separate from or beyond their US counterparts? Any advice or links would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Daniel

I would say the same as the .com’s just make sure you have a .co.uk domain and it's also hosted in the UK

Regional search engine bias or filter site according to their importance to that region. In theory, sites that are located in that same regions will rank higher than in the global engine.

Automatic indexing will occur in regionals and more weight is given to domain names that have "co.uk" (for UK regional) but this doesn't mean you get a top ranked position and ".com", ".net" etc. if relevant can equally get to #1. Other than this, the general algo still applies.

The single greatest "tip" for improving regional results, is placing your physical address on every web page particularly if offering products and/or services. If text is impractical add to "alt" tag or a title element. Many people type in "toys+UK" or similar geographical queries.
