Lycos Ranking System

How does lycos rank?

Hi all,

I've been trying to optimise my site in Lycos. If I search for my criteria on the worldwide search I'm first. However, if I do a UK search (which is set to default by lycos) I appear really low down (about 13th).

Does anyone know how lycos ranks its sites or how to improve my UK ranking as it is a UK business. I know a directory editor at lycos but see can't help me because it's a different system.

I dont know if its just like Sweden.

In Sweden lycos take the first 3 results from the directory if there are any matches. And i think to have an succes you will have to in the directory. It is a huge diffrent from serch the web instaed of the regional country.

I have made some examples when i search for keyword in the world i get number 1 when i search for my country Sweden iam not in the 30.

I think they give a bigger boost for the local domain namne in this case .se.

I talked to them about this and they dont wanna answer it but they said i think your guess is very good.

Maybe it works like this from your area i dont know.

UK Directory is a major factor, also local domains get serious promotion. Is very difficult to get a good ranking for a .com in UK Lycos.

Who manages that directory? How does one get in touch with an editor? Is it possible?

I assume that the directory is managed in house by Lycos UK - each category has an editor - go to the editor profile and you get given a Mail Me link.

I haven't tried actually using this link so don't know if they actually bother replying.

Ian's correct - it's in-house. Find the category and submit from there.
