Freeserve and Google Database

Freeserve refreshing their database

Does anyone know or worked out how often Freeeserve refresh their database.

I will also clarify some questions in the other post.

1. The Overture results (paid) are from the UK Overture database.
2. The Inktomi you see at the top of the page I think is Freeserve using Inktomi to generate an additional database for information sites on freeserve. Such as Icircle.
3. There is a mix of Overture and Google results only when there are paid results on Overture. If not it is pure Google.

That is what I have managed to work out. I hope that helps.

Hi Lloyd,
I'm staying out of this as all I can see are Overture/Ink results.

I'm seeing the Overture logo and pure Google results at Freeserve (from California). www.freeserve.co.uk redirects to www.freeserve.com, that's all I can get to.

Could it be geographic?

Could quite easily be geographic on the Overture feed in Freeserve. That seems to be the case with some of the Overture listings in the likes of Yahoo & Lycos.

For me it is serving pure Google.

Glyn.

okay for a 2 keyword pharse i am listed

4th in overture (not paid of inclusion)
3rd in google
1st inktomi

nowhere in freeserve. and I used to be ranked 1st any ideas.

not to worried due to little traffic we used to get from freeserve on this site

This is the first time I have looked at freeserve in ages, but what I am seeing is slightly worrying.

I am seeing nearly pure google results, however none of my sites which are listed in google are showing in up in the freeserve results. Apart from the omission of my sites, the google and freeserve liustings are identical for my search phrases.

It almost seem taht freeserve are using

google - ink(PFI) serps

I have checked 6 urls all the same ranked in google - PFI in Ink not in freeserve

Not the case for my sites, I think they are in INK but they are all freebies, not PFI.

Any response Dave ?

I had a referral from freeserve yesterday. It appears that I have only have a single page from one of my sites listed for any of my usual search terms.

I have been having a look at this situation and am really not sure what is going on at freeserve.

seems to be that you only get a result from google when overture doesn´t have an advertiser for the term you searched for.

I am waiting for a new site to be recognised in the SE's, and upon searching for it I found ONE result (not the site) with (Google) next to the SERP. Obviously its from Google.

No sign of an update tho :)

<added> The SERP I mentioned above states Google next to the SERP, but a redirection URL was used in the SERP pointing to Overture??

I dont know much about Overture but I would "assume" they are using Google to fill empty space and some of these are filtering through on Freeserve searches. Just an assumption

Freeserve are using Google as backfill for their overture results and diverting through an Overture server to do so.

Overture actually has its own backfill database of unpaid listings ( they stopped taking submissions to this db sometime back) which they use on their own site.

What intrigues me is whether Overture may be considering going to a Google backfill on their own site.

just a another spanner we all Know that the bbc a taken a feed like freeserve.

well the sights missing from google rank high in the bbc than in google

1 key placed 3rd in google 1st in bbc not in freeserve.

I think that (based nothing)

freeserve and bbc filter OUT paid Ink or overture differently but they do filter out.

BBC is using Google UK sites only as its primary results.

DaveN are you saying that the BBC listings for full www search are not the same as the Google.com listings?

If so is it also the case that the Google.co.uk listings are not the same as BBC UK listings?
