Whether you clear your browsing history locally, or not, the ISPs will, if the bill passes in its current form, require browsing history to be stored for 12-months. The tough safeguards is a concern, if we're to have confidence in Government managed data being secure and private.

Internet firms will have to store details of every website visited by UK citizens in the past 12 months, under planned new surveillance laws.

The police and security services will have to get permission to access the content and councils will be banned from trawling the records.

Home Secretary Theresa May insists the powers are needed to fight terrorism and promises tough safeguards.

The draft Investigatory Powers bill is due to be published later. UK Surveillance Bill Proposes Storing 12-Month's Web Browsing History [bbc.co.uk]

translation: "we want to do it, and terrorism is a good excuse. if people do not buy that we will sat its to fight paedophiles instead".

More significant than this is the proposed ban on encryption.

I agree, that ban on encryption is bad news and will just make it easier for bad actors getting at the wider population, imho. UK Net Firms Will Be Banned From Using Strong Encryption [webmasterworld.com]
