Does this mean they have reached the turn and aren't the in thing with youngsters any more - or are they trying to get more saturation with the older audience?

Have you seen the ads, or is it a plan to advertise.
It seems odd to me that a social network uses adversing to market to its audience. Or, perhaps, it's ads to attract new advertisers.
From what I can see they are promoting [internet.org...] where the home page hints of global collaboration. Now where have I heard that before.....oh that's right, Weaving the Web - Tim Berners Lee.
If memory serves it was the basic idea that he has for creating a globally connected people, so that we could all do more to help mankind.
I'm still trying :-)

I felt that I'd probably lurked for long enough....
I'm a mod on another board and stupid busy at work so had avoided this for a while but as I kept coming back I figured it was time to take the plunge.

Have seen the ads - seems to be based around a 'friends' theme

For someone actually living in the UK: What's the target audience? I don't mean the ads themselves. I mean the audience of the specific shows, or time slots, where the ads are running.

What's the target audience?
A good question.
I don't have a television, so here is some speculation.
There are probably a handful of troglodytes somewhere in UK who have never heard of Facebook, and a small percentage of hard core refuseniks who have resisted signing up for whatever reason.
I doubt that the campaign is aimed at them.
I would guess that existing members who have found other things to do now that the novelty has worn off are the primary target - revenue is all about usage, being a member is not enough.
And inculcating children with the idea that all "grown ups" use the service could pay off in the long term.

I was watching a channel I wouldn't usually watch for some reason - possibly Dave or Pick - I didn't really give it much thought at the time - it was only afterwards that I thought it was odd that Facebook had started running TV ads.
