I don't know there is any one place to go to find the info. Companies house lists all the companies and Nominet lists all the domains (not sites).
The bigger search services, such as Google, contain the indexed data and something like Yell has an extensive list of firms, but not websites.
Not sure it has helped on this one.
Companies House only records info on certain types of businesses (notably limited companies), and Nominet only records domain info, which as engine points out, says nothing about actual sites. Also, consider how many UK companies have .com domains, and how many non-UK companies have .co.uk domains
Isn't this fun? :)
- 200,000 commercial web sites in the UK (DTI figures) brochure pages, simple sites through to BA and Tesco etc.
- 20,000 have e-commerce facilities of some form (again DTI)
- 9500 companies have advertised on the web - with an aim to drumming up UK business in 2001
- c 5000 of these are British based
According to my source, they estimate that there are 2500 bodies in the UK investing a substanial sum on developing their sites and take ebusiness very seriously. The ones with obvious revenue models and clear paths to profitability are in ; finance, travel, shopping and @dult.
It would be interesting to know if anyone else has stats to help expand this further.
This list is actually the list of submitted sites to the search engine that I "maintain". Our current privacy policy prohibits us reselling the list, so I can't really help you. Sorry.
