I'll steer well clear!
If it works once - typing a search term in the address bar - then it will be used again.
A lot of traffic from msn is from this group but more people have one of the MS sites as their homepage (hotmail, msn, etc). I think searches from people using the address bar turn up with "auto" something in the referer.
UK Plus... The cheek - I'd never dream of charging so much for something that just won't deliver. Maybe I should ? ...
Is this the first of many of the small search engine/portals to go this route?
Yes!
UK Plus, like most other Web sites are desperate for revenue. For the search engines and directories, charging to list/consider sites is one of the few 'acceptable' forms of generating revenue.
It's unfortunate, but this trend is going to grow.
Heck, I even forked up the money to get considered by UKPlus. Don't forget the prices quoted before don't include VAT, for which you have to add a whopping 17.5%.
We paid £57.57 to be considered for UKPlus. Considering that one person in something like 300 who visits our site goes on to by something, it's quite an investment for a second-ranking directory.
I'll keep you posted as to what happens with our UKPlus submission.
Does anybody know how long it might take them to get around to visiting our site if we've used the 90 days submission method?
