Internet Piracy Bill Passed By House of Lords [news.bbc.co.uk]
Legislation to tackle internet piracy, including bans for illegal file-sharers, has been passed by the Lords.

The Digital Economy Bill is now expected to be rushed through the Commons before the general election.

An extremely good report on Panorama [bbc.co.uk] (iPlayer, UK only, available until 8:59pm Tuesday 15th March 2011).

The bill itself is a heartbreaking work of staggering incompetence. Just one example from my own field (modems):

The most popular router/gateway in the UK is a Thomson product, either direct or re-badged (eg the BT-HH). Wireless versions of these models are vulnerable [gnucitizen.org], by default. So, warning letters will cause the more savvy to start plundering their neighbours' connections instead (or using proxy servers).

A recipe for insurrection.
