Geo targeted IP delivery UK vs US

Is it better to use IP delivery to target UK vs US or 2 seperate URLs

We have a client that is building out a new e-commerce website. The brand is based in the UK however does significant business in the US as well.

Ideally, we would recommend that they build out a subdomain with targeted information content for each site, but they want to keep the content the same, with the ONLY thing changing being GBP vs dollar, and targeted promos.

Is it better to use the IP delivery, or would you suggest building out 2 separate URLs with potential risk of very similar content

If the only thing you were doing was going to be the GBP/USD change then I would have said go for IP delivery.

It is the targeted promos that are the difficult thing - how significantly different will these make the pages? If they make the pages significantly different then go for different subdomains if not then stick with the IP delivery.

Give a manual option to change. I have worked at a multinational where internet traffic from London went through the private network and onto the net in New York.

IanTurner - the promos would be more of an image/banner based so they would not affect the overall content

I see so many 'International" sites give the option after the, assumed correct, IP delivered page/material is displayed.

That is the best option, imho.
