Why do search engines insist on returning US results first despite me selecting the option for UK only? Why does Google.co.uk do the same?
I live in the UK and I am getting pretty hacked off with this, if I search for a product in the UK, I find I am swamped with US results and about 5 pages in I start seeing UK results.
I thought the whole point of as search engine was to help you find stuff that is relevant to your locality quicker and then were able to extend that search further if needed?
So what happened?
I have complained to Google and Yahoo but it falls on deaf ears, why? Because they are US based company's that are not interested in providing you with what you want but what the people who advertise with them want.
Any on-line petitions that are reputable and reliable, please tell me as I would like to start one and see if we can make EVERYONE'S lives easier in the search world.
An example:
I was searching for a news article on the UK police and got results for the met in London (not what I was looking for) and the other results were from some middle american town, Africa and Germany and eventually after the 4th page I found an article on the history of UK police when I was actually looking for a news story from yesterday!
So with that in mind, it would be interesting if you could relate your search engine frustrations.
From my part, I see relatively good quality UK results when I select the UK option. In other words, it works for me.
Just a thought: Have you tried using a proxy with your country IP. If that works, then, what it indicates is the search service sees your IP as not being your country IP, but as, for example, US, or even undefined.
