What is happening at Lycos UK.

I submitted sites to the Lycos directory ages and ages ago and some got on and you guessed it the rest didn't.

I have been resubmitting the sites but do not seem to get anywhere.

Does anyone have any suggestions or a useful contact.

Many thanks for your help.

Hi Lloyd,
Just a guess: Perhaps they had a full inbox of sites to review and trash the ones they dont get to at the end of each day. ;)
I'd agree, it's not reliable.

Keep trying.

Hi Lloyd

Similar problem since mid February. We had problems with some mailbox routings to Lycos but that seemed to clear up in March on our particular category.

Subsequent submissions don't seem to have been accepted not only on our subs but across a large category grouping.

I agree with engine, keep trying.

We get the odd one listed on the first go but are experiencing the same frustration with most sites we submit. The odd thing is that the ones that do get listed are no better than the ones that don't. And we use the exact same submission process for each site.

teresha, a warm welcome to Webmaster World. Thanks for your contribution.

It does seem so, very, hit and miss for success with the directory.

With more people confirming this all the time, it shows we should be cautious when offering guarantees.

Time to give up?

Would be very interested to hear of any progress by anybody in 'Lycos Home > Travel and Holidays > Search by Destination > Africa' in the last 5 months.

I think they should be training that dog to collect sites rather than bury or loose them! I dont get upset with lycos anymore (heck the pills are working), Ill check rankings every now & then and sometimes Ill have a surprise, like today Ive just checked some keywords for a client and most have now been picked up, one of his main keywords at number one WOW, but its only taken 12 mths :(

Thanks tigger,

Similarly, weve been very pleasantly surprised by results of a 6 week old .com site in the UK SERPs (wish we could replicate it in the .com database.).

The problem is that we have an older and far more comprehensive .co.uk site on which weve made simply zero progress in the Lycos Directory. We have an even older site thats been giving us good referrals from the Directory for a few years now and wed like to repeat this.

If Lycos UK are neglecting other categories as they seem to have done with one that weve watched closely for a long time then theyre doing a real disservice to themselves and their users.

Somebody got lucky! One category just had 60 new additions reflected since the weekend. I can't say how old some of those submissions are but there's definitely some very recent stuff in the directory.

Patience is a virtue - maybe Lycos are also listening in here! Thanks guys....

click_watcher, it's looking OK this end. Is it still a problem?

hi freebee, actually yes!!

maybe my internet connection gone mad...

as random examples from the lycos.co.uk homepage...

tesco advert ... blank page
horoscopes ... blank page
Lifestyle>food and drink ... blank page

Motoring ... yes !!! 3 articles all dated 8 august

i've used IE, Opera and Mozilla. Refreshed pages etc.

i've just been to lycos.de and similiar results although many more pages available, but many not, just at random these are blank...

shopping> scooter
dating love@lycos

plus enough more,

i'm perplexed by this especially if others can get it working and also that some links work for me.

I don't figure this one out, I checked each of the pages you quoted and it's all OK.

It's not your browser. Have you tried another dial-up? Are you going through a cached proxy?

Just tried Ping and Traceroute, both timed out. Cleared cache and tried different dial up my end and the site and directories seem OK still.

Is anybody else seeing a problem?

[lycos.co.uk...]

view source, there is some kind of code i don't understand.

Hi All,

Just thought I'd give my pennies worth to the discussion earlier in this thread about problems with submissions to Lycos.

I have managed to get a few listings recently, though not for some of our larger known brands.

Last year we had a couple of our bigger clients listed in the same category - then they were dropped when the category was recently re-organised. Our clients have since been contacted by Lycos advertising dept...

I have re-submitted them to this category with no luck. Then about 3-4 weeks ago I submitted an inferior site which was accepted. Maybe the site which was accepted looked like it didn't have an advertising budget?

Are editors and the advertising dept working together?

Just an idea..

Hi Guys

Firstly thanks for all your replies to my question.

I have found recently that my newest submissions have got onto the Lycos directory but re-subs are not doing to well to the original categories.

I have also tried new categories and not the old ones for re-sub. I am waiting on results. Will keep you posted.
