Is getting listed on UK Plus worthwhile?

Once you are in, what traffic have you seen?

I am referring to UK Plus. :)
One of the mispellings in UK Plus is so wrong, it suggests the business is located in a different country (if you don't read it carefully).
I tried to get the site edited and ended up having the site removed altogether. E v e n t u a l l y, I go the site back in, with another srawling irror! Grrr.
Considering how long they've been in existence, they really have little choice on a search. You may say that it's good to be the only one found - but
1 they frequently take eons for a search page to load
2 the add url often isn't working, or it's not obvious whether it has or not
3 their spelling is dreadful
4 there are no holds barred when it comes to their descriptions
I have 2 clients' sites accepted and I rather wish they hadn't been. Who would want:
"Scrappy little web site advertising *** horsey gear. Some catalogue pics, otherwise bare address/phone number for distributors in 10 countries. For the two UK suppliers, you get no more than an e-mail address."
- and then they put it in the wrong subcategory - no it wasn't my mistake ;)
It's not a brilliant site but it's certainly not as bad as that
and
"What seems to be an American-based "program" of language courses - it also talks about "travelers" - designed to help out on holiday, business or backpacking is actually based in Somerset"
(The owner wanted US spelling so that the site was not considered to be UK)
It is no advantage to have those listed as sole (or even among 2 or 3) results
- the 2nd site is a .com

What KNOW IT DOES NOT if I can't find it how on earth is a user ever going to find it .
This happened with all our clients I ahve always always had to send an e-mail to Bob Coole to say this url is in but it is not. It is such a pain and a waste of my time.
Maybe we could start a new topic about slagging off Uk plus Iam sure it will get many responces.

The owner of 'the scrappy little site' was livid and wrote to them (politely) asking them to change it. They totally ignored him.
Whatever the hassles and the apparent ignorance of the members of the hierarchy of a directory, we will continue to try to get listed in the offchance that they might be useful.
However, I will defend one aspect, these are FREE listings. I've seen many threads about "free" listings and what one can expect from a listing of this nature. In most araes of commerce, nothing comes for free. It costs someone, somewhere, something.
The poor quality will eventually result in either a failure or an investment. We'll never know what it will be until it happens. Just remember one thing, if you feel it's not worth it don't bother. Until you've spent your time helping them get the entries right, you'll probably never know.
Their "terms of use" describe the limits of their policies and the submissions page is quite open about unacceptable descriptions and what to do.
Videoman. Looks like you've put every effort into making this work and, apparently, it's not working. I know we've spoken about this (amongst others) before, a long time back. Do your site logs show nothing at all from the listing?
I checked the listing on your site. Have you checked to see if "video duplication" appears on your page and keywords? Unless I'm looking at the wrong site, "duplication" appears on the page and in the keywords, but not "video duplication."
I have always considered any work that comes from the Internet, given the nature of my business as a "lottery win" and so the small but significant amount of work that it yields has cost nothing to get, unlike my Yellow Pages spend of £1500 pa. Yes of course I would like to increase the volume (hence the help of these Forums) but I have to balance time spent on SE promotion against actually working which is what pays the bills.
I am never ceased to be amazed by the numbers of hits that come from all those obscure UK engines/directories such as Splut and England-Online etc. I dont understand how "searchers" find theses SE's in the first place but they do.
As a final little tale,I was contacted by a very large Multi-national company last year regarding making a short programme showing the implementation of a new system for Ford. When I asked the lady who contacted me "were you recommended by another client who has connections with Ford?", she told me had found me on UK Plus and contacted me as I was local to the filming venue!!! Wasnt sure how to react to that but as the job was worth 2.5K who cares.

I feel the same. Some of the SE/directories are more productive. Some of the KWs eople use amazes me howt anyone finds anything at all. One of the big issues is that many people don't know how to use the search properly. Even if they don't, at least there are hits from some sources.

That will come - after all, we've been around a lot longer than the mass of UK searchers, they *should* learn in time ;)
