Had this e-mail from Mirago today offering me a new deal on PPC aparently they receive more than 3/4 million searches per day! Any thoughts on that statement?

>There is a minimum charge of 10p per click through, but the scheme allows you to bid for exactly how much you are prepared to pay.

At 10p per bid my only offer would be down, considering they, I think, only pass results onto Ask and they are under the Goto results.

Yet another UK search engine trying to keep up with the big boys & girls but failing. I wonder how long it will last??

I think you summed it up, Tigger. Playing with the BIG boys and girls.
Actually, I like the Mirago concept, even if it is difficult to get into the db.
They do advertise in high street publications to boost visitor numbers, and, of course, as you say, AJ delivers results from Mirago.
It is let down a little as once you are in there the serps relevancy is not brilliant.
PPC has to deliver, no matter what the price. Anyone paying would expect, no, insist on results.
I agree, 10p is too steep to get people started, but, surely, the object of the exercise would be to get customers to sign up to the service. Low minimum click cost might be a better answer, with a higher minimum value in the kitty.

I'd also like to see the Mirago visitor numbers better qualified as, I assume, the figures quoted are across all their services. The figures I see on the site are "...currently more than 300,000 regular Mirago users."

You really would have thought though, considering they are playing secound fiddle with uk.goto, that the entry bid would have been lower than theirs (not double!). It would make sense then to rely on the bidders to increase their bids to keep themselves at the number one poistion, an entry bid around 3/5pence & I think they could pull some bidder's in.

It will be interesting so see just how their featured listings grow, or not.

On another note, where's the sun gone :(. Just typical on a day when I'm supposed to be out and about taking pictures of hot tubs for a new website, better get the wellies out!

There is some method in this. Firstly they can test the waters by only getting people who are in the know on board. I've got some terms on Mirago which are now getting hundreds of hits a day which would have cost me 5 times as much to get in AJ via GoTo listings and 25 times more to show up as one of the intitial 'we have found these results from other search engines' window. So, while it lasts, it is actually saving me huge money on these competitive terms whilst boosting my traffic.

Secondly, SEOs can get a discount and a credit account if you are in the UK ;)
